Between powerful guitar riffs and the rush of drums, Filip y Woppe’s music travels across tropical rhythms and psychedelic sounds. Created in Mexico City in 2017 from the encounter of a Colombian and a Belgian musician, later joined by two Mexicans, this instrumental project playfully infuses rock, groove, and improvisation with Afro-Colombian and Caribbean rhythms. From the throb of their cumbias to their hottest progressive beats, the cadence of Filip y Woppe inescapably entrances the public.
They dropped their first EP “Vivo” in January 2018 and will soon promote the second, “Ventana Espacial” recorded in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, in February 2020 with the collaboration of Todd Clouser.
The goal we had in mind when creating the Ventana Espacial EP was to communicate the essence of the band: the power and vitality of live music, its contagious energy. This was a real challenge, as each theme sets a different universe. We created all the tracks collectively, exploring the personality of all the members, the intention we wanted to pass on, and the sounds that best characterize the band.
In order to reach the sound we wanted while keeping the freshness of live music, we worked with Víctor Velázquez “KB”, knowledgeable and skilful wizard of sound at the great Testa Studio (León, Gto, Mexico). We also asked Todd Clouser for his expertise in production, all along paying attention to every detail and pushing the imagination a bit further each time, always guided by our love of psychedelia.
The result is three tracks which either stir you to the dance floor or invite you to explore your own consciousness. An explosive and multicoloured sound that pays tribute to artists such as Marc Ribot, Frente Cumbiero, but also Joe Arroyo and even Leo Brower, in a flow of blended and throbbing melodies.
